Robot Love

This is another layout that was laying around incomplete for quite a while, but because of focusing on these types of layouts for my Finishing Project with Simple Scrapper, I was able to get this one done!

This layout was a very modified version of a page kit designed by Just Kitting. It was originally a two page design, but with the photos I had and didn't have much to say, it didn't make sense to complete it that way.

Once I figured out what I was going to say, I typed it up, printed it out and cut into strips.

Love how this one turned out and happy to have another layout finished!

Having a Blast!

Here is another Page in Progress. It is also another Disneyland layout as well as another kit from Just Kitting.

Love the dark background on this one since the ride is dark with pops of bright neon colors.

That paper piecing is just awesome as well!

Love that I am finally getting the words on these layouts and able to put them into my albums! Thanks for looking!

All geared up

Here is another layout that was in progress that I finally got completed!

This was a class kit that I created with my friend Tami Bastiaans, also known as PlaysWellWithPaper on Instagram. She is a big Tim Holtz fan, and now on his design team! The gears and use of distress are in line with her style!

To complete this one, I found a Project Life card that was in the same color as the yellow elements on the page. I ran it through my printer and then stamped the sentiment with some stamps from Ali Edwards from the drive story stamp.

Love the ticket border detail and added some of my own metal gears to finish this one off!

Love having this story told!

First Easter-Aaron’s baby album

Another Page in progress that I am finally completing!

This layout foundation was a kit that was part of a Lisa Bearnson collection of kits from Creating Keepsakes. Super old but super cute.

The chipboard stickers were not part of the kit, but paired nicely with the products in the kit. The collection of kits was very inexpensive and great starting points but for my style needed a bit more to feel complete.

Added a bit of washi tape, paper flowers, and sequins as finishing touches and called this one complete!

This is a story that goes in my son's first year album. So happy to have this complete to finish off that album as well!

Jungle Fever

Finishing another layout in my in-progress pile!

This layout is another from Just Kitting.

Loved all of the palm fronds and leaves in this one.
Used a Studio Calico date stamp, I believe to finish this one off.

Another great paper piecing!

Thanks for stopping by!

Home Cookin’

Sharing another layout that I have had in progress for way too long! This layout is about a Thanksgiving we had at home since we lived in California away from family. Loved finishing it the week of Thanksgiving ten years later!

I used a kit from Just Kitting that has recently closed its "doors." Used a few stamps from Technique Tuesday and Ali Edwards to finish this one off.

These kits were known for their paper piecing. Gotta love those birds!

Thanks for stopping by!

Dinomite

Here with you today to share another layout in progress. This layout is not quite as old as some of the others I have been working through.

This layout features papers from Basic Grey, I believe.
I created another layout using this paper line and it was also for pages from LEGOland.

Love all of the chipboard bits and how it came together. I am always a sucker for the grid.

Thank you for taking a look!

Fine Feathered Friends

I have been working through some in-progress pages still. Here is another one.

This is a modified two-page layout designed by Just Kitting that I turned into one. Unfortunately Just Kitting is no longer in business.

Love how Chicken Little turned out in this with the tail feather detail!

Have another layout to share soon!
Thanks for stopping by!

First Christmas- Aaron’s baby album

Aaron’s Baby album had never been completed. I unearthed a list of pages I had wanted to complete for his album from 2008 and realized
1. I didn’t need or want all of those stories in this album. And
2. I was missing a few key pages to finish it off.

His first Christmas was one of those layouts.

I went to my Christmas stash in search of a place to start. I knew I might have some predesigned layout kits leftover from pre- December Daily stash. Sure enough I found one by 2ScrappySisters . These types of layouts are no longer my style, but it worked nicely with the layouts in this album that I created back when it was.

I altered the layout design on the second page quite a bit. The photo placement is also completely altered.

I got creative with my journaling placement on this one. I typed it up and printed it on Tim Holtz tissue paper. It comes on a roll that I cut to fit and adhered to copy paper. When I mod podge it to the background (let the ink set for an hour so it doesn’t bleed from the glue) it almost disappears! I then found an Ali Edwards stamp from an old Technique Tuesday set that said “remember this”.

I am finally learning how to use the Silhouette Cameo that I was gifted and cut my title for this page. I used some digital stamps from Ali to create it. I cut it three times and layered them together to give it dimension.

The paper pieced Santa is the whole reason I purchased this kit long ago. This Santa is amazing! The texture I his beard and trim as well as the shading on all of the pieces. He was fun to make!

I happened to find a Basic Grey sticker that had the same colors and feel of the other presents to use on the second page.

The snowflakes are sequins that I bought from the Target Spot years ago. Love those things!

So excited to be wrapping up this album project for my 14 year old son. Love that I found a way to use this kit from my stash. Love that I made it my own and love the results!

Thanks for stopping by!

Fortune Keeper

The layout I am sharing here started from a kit from Just Kitting. Just Kitting, owned and run by my mom, recently is no longer, unfortunately, due to concerns with copy right.

Most kits I have in my stash, I rarely keep as they are unmodified. This is another of those kits. I did keep the title as well as the main elements included with the kit, I just used them in different ways.

I never seem to have the right number or orientation of photos to use with these predesigned kits, so for this one, I created a band of photos and used the photo mat papers as a band to embellish the layout.

For reasons I don't really remember, I started collecting fortunes from cookies for Aaron and then my other kids. I found this layout a perfect way to use those collected bits to add to this story. I no longer hold on to them any more.

The dragon is a Cricut cut from one of the Disney cartridges. Below are some close ups of the fortunes.

Thank you for looking! Hope to share another layout soon!

Moving - CA apt to house

I have a handful of layouts that have been on my "bucket list" for quite a while. Layouts that I have had photos printed, ready for the story for some time, they just haven't been completed.

I am participating in Simple Scrappers' Bucket List Project class and it has been motivating me to get these off my list and into my albums.

The layout I am sharing here is one of those layouts.

This layout design was a kit from Scrapbook Generations. I tend to modify these to fit the photo sizes and the amount of journaling I have to include. These kits tend to be a bit flat, so I tend to add a bit more texture and dimension to their kits.

I used to subscribe to Scrapbook Generations' kits for a few years, but struggled to find a use for all of the themes, especially when I began to start with story. I wasn't creating as quickly as they came in (5 a month at the time) so I quit subscribing. I was happy to find this one in my stash that fit the story I wanted to tell.

As always, I look through my stamp stash, especially my Story Stamp themes looking for stamps to embellish my layouts. For this layout, I was able to use a few from the Move and Home story theme sets.

Added the journaling card to tell more of my story as well as using foam adhesive to add dimension to the stickers and stamped embellishments.

Since these photos were of mostly empty rooms, I really wanted to add the "if these walls could talk" stamp. I found a label from Elle's Studio that fit the sentiment, but it was on white paper. Most of the elements from this collection were cream, so I got out my Distress Ink in Old Paper and distressed it a bit to blend in with the collection better.

Love how this ended up coming together and love that this story is now off my bucket list and into my album!

Thanks for stopping by!

Love you to pieces

This layout was inspired by Ali Edwards' Story Stamp theme of pieces.

As part of the Story Stamp class material, Ali Edwards included a digital template that I was able to use to create the heart photo collage.

I used a similar page design as Ali did as one of her layouts, but instead of two pages smaller than 12x12, I modified it to one 12x12.

I hand wrote my journaling for this one, transcribing it from another source. I tend to write my journaling for these themes well before I am ready to scrapbook them. I was a bit nervous that I would get it all to fit, but I knew I had the other half of this pattern paper to redo it if I didn't get it right the first time.

I used a stamp in the set to create the title on my page using a black glitter embossing powder. I had some rainbow puffy heart stickers from Jillibean Soup that repeated the heart shape from the photo collage.

On the cork patterned paper, I used white embossing powder as well as a few of the other stamps in the stamp set to embellish. I used some decorative tape from Ali Edwards to cover the seam of the two patterns of the layout together.

Love how this one came out and how quickly since I had the framework of the layout designed ahead of time.

Thanks for looking!

May Everyday Pieces

Stacy Julian challenged us in the 20 in 20 class to create a May Everyday project. Part of her project was to collect the little bits of life to go with the photos and words. I have been using the Day One app to store and print the daily photos and words but I wanted to have a place to put the stuff. I decided to save a 2.5x2.5 inch square of stuff daily in May.

Here is the 2 page layout I created with the stuff I collected.

I don't use card stock backgrounds very often and when I do, they tend to be white. This layout was a far departure from that! I chose the navy background for two reasons.

First a pattern would have been too busy with all of the "stuff" on this page. There were so many colors and patterns on this page, I didn't want to make it any more visually noisy.

Second of all, there were quite a few pieces that were on white or near white and I wanted a bit of contrast so the pieces would stand out a bit, so I chose the navy.

I stitched using a zigzag stitch using my sewing machine to quilt the pieces together. I used the black and white puffy number stickers for most of the days that came from the left overs from my December Daily kit from Elle's Studio.

I embellished with some stickers from Shimelle's sticker book and used some stamps from the "Stuff" Story Stamp from Ali Edwards. The title was created using two styles of Thickers.

So glad to have a snapshot using bits and pieces from our life right now. Think it will be fun to look back on years from now to see how packaging and things changed.

Santa Monica

This is a layout from Scrapbook Generations that I tweaked to make my own. I actually had these pictures on another layout that had sat in my Pages in Progress pile for years. It was with the recent URHere layout  that I also redid.

I began this layout in 2008. I know this because one of the first projects I made on my new Circut Expression that I bought when they first made the 12x12 inch version. I was so proud of the title using the photos!

That layout turned out okay and I was moving on to the last layout in this trip and I couldn't finish it with the supplies I had pulled. When I was going back through the pile, this kit jumped out to me as being able to work, especially since another kit using similar product was going to work for the last few photos I had for this trip.

I struggled on how to place the title. Part of me wanted to stack the words, but you would have lost the panoramic element to it, so I had it stretch across the first page.

I had journaling written for this page, which was super helpful in telling this story, but with a bit of time and reflection, I beefed it up a bit more to tie it with the other layouts from this trip so it tells a better over arching story.

I wasn't sure how to add all of the words. Finally decided that word strips would allow me to audition different places on the layout. And finally went with this.

So much happier with how it looks now, and how it interacts with the layout before and after it.

Thanks for stopping by to check it out!

Exploring Santa Barbara Zoo

Today I am sharing another layout that has been in my Pages in Progress pile.

One of the projects I have on my 20 in 20 class list to complete for 2020 is to finish 24 layouts from this pile. I figured that I could manage 2 layouts in the pile a month. Most of them need journaling and the date on them, so they shouldn't be that labor intensive. I figured that some of the pages would overlap with my Bucket List Project class that I am also taking this year. Hoping for a productive year!

This layout was inspired by Nichol Magouirk scrapbook layouts. She now is going by Nichol Spohr and almost exclusively creates and shares cards. But back in the Two Peas in a Bucket days, I was a big fan of her layouts. One of the reasons I found Ali Edwards and became obsessed with her stamps.

Here and here are a few examples of layouts Nichol has done to show the influences she had on this layout.

She used Kerri Bradford's photo collage templates a lot. I purchased a set and have used them on many layouts. They are a great way to get a ton of photos on a layout easily and in an ascetically pleasing design.

I used an old SEI scrapbook kit to create most of this page. The animal die cuts were adorable and the brown parts were flocked.

The title was created using an old set of Thickers and tile letter stickers from Simple Stories.

The date I created from different old Ali Edwards stamp sets from Technique Tuesday.

Check out that Kangaroo die cut. Its baby was separate so you could place in and out of its pouch!

I managed to fit the journaling on two tags on opposite sides of the photos that were part of the kit I used.

I found some rub-ons in my stash that were zoo themed. I found quite a few worked with my photos and figured that if they worked I was going to use up as many I could.

Loved how this page came together! The last bit this layout needed was the date. I added the date circle once the date was located and it didn't take much to finish them. So glad to have this one in my album!

Pieces of Me

Today I am sharing my Pieces of Us project. I followed along with Ali Edwards' prompts in February for her self portrait adventure.

I knew I wanted to make something with the images and words I had documented in Instagram over the week, and when I came across this sketching the Simple Scrapper membership, I knew I had the perfect layout design to work from.

I used some paper from Jen Hadfield, as well as some chip board pieces from one of her collections. I also found some stitched ephemera pieces that came from Maggie Holmes.

I stamped Pieces of Me using Story Stamps from theme of pieces and me. The "of" was stamped using partial inking of one of the stamps in one of those sets. I stamped in grey ink and used clear embossing powder to have it stand out a bit more. Gave it a different texture.

I added the prompts list as a photo to put the project into more context. To show it was more than just a thing I decided to do on my own.

I struggled with fitting all of my words on the layout, and the font was a bit tiny, but it worked for the space that I had allotted for it. I used some older Ali Edwards stamps that were the days of the week. Thought the handwriting matching the title worked nicely.

I have been taking Stacy Julian's 20 in 20 class this year. One of the projects she recommended for us to do in February was something about us right now. I thought this was a perfect project to do for the assignment as well as fit with the other "pieces' Story Stamp stories I was working on telling at the time.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my layout!

Play Your Way

After my youngest was playing with this toy, the gum ball machine, I realized how different my kids were when they played with it. I could remember taking pictures of the older two playing with this toy, but wasn't sure about the Ally, my third child. Luckily I had, and luckily it showed how she had played with it in the photographs!

So I had the story I knew I wanted to tell and the photos to support it, then it was how to put it together.

Ali Edwards' Story Stamp theme for one month was Play, which was perfect to use with my story. Next, I had to decide on a layout design and products.

I decided to do a two page layout. I had too much stuff with four sets of photos, and journaling for each. I decided to block it, where each child got have a page.

When looking for paper, I wanted to find a pattern that was multicolored and had bright colors that reminded me of the toy. I found a stripe in Shimelle's Box of Crayons project pad, but couldn't find any subtle tone on tone patterns that worked with my story. There is colored card stock included in the pad, so I found ones in that collection as well as another (Glitter Girl, maybe.) That matched the stripes in the patterned paper.

I don't tend to use colored card stock much any more, preferring more depth with patterns, but decided it was a good opportunity to create my own patterned paper with the Play themed Story Stamps from Ali Edwards.

This is what I created.

I debated on whether to create a repeating pattern or make it random. I chose the repeating pattern, knowing I would most likely like the overall look better if it repeated. I also tested some of the paper out with some Distress Inks to find a good match to the color of papers that I had chosen.

Really love how it turned out. I felt a bit disappointed that so much of it got covered up! Will definitely be doing this technique again and will select a design that will give it more room to shine next time.

Here is the final layout!

For the title, I found a Thicker phrase from Shimelle, that said play and some old Simple Stories alphas to create the rest of the title.

The title rests on a die cut I created using a Tim Holtz Sizzix die.

Because I had so many dates on this page, the dates of each set of photos, I wanted to include what day I journaled this story. I used a new stamp set from Everyday Explorers National Scrapbook Day bundle to add that. I tucked it in above the two photos of my son. Seemed like the best fit for the layout.

Another element to this layout that I was excited about was the stamped and paper pieced gum ball machine. The stamp is from Lawn Fawn. I had loved the fact that the stamp set came will all kinds of different faces to give the gum balls, and had no real thought to using it in this way when I bought it.

It wound up being a perfect embellishment for this story! I stamped it multiple times on each of the color card stocks and cut the pieces out and pieced it together. I am not much of a stamp colorer, so this worked best for me. Later for an embellishment around my photos, I stamped more gum balls and scattered them around the page.

For each child, I die cut their names using some old alpha dies from Quickutz. I stamped the date the photo was taken under that. I debated on whether I should add their ages under that, but they were all between 9 months old and a year and wasn't sure how to add it without complicating my design.

I found a journaling card for each child and gave it a subtitle with how they played with the toy. My kids got a kick out of them when they saw me putting this layout together, loving to hear how they played with it and how that was different from the others.

In repeating elements of the first page, I added two more View Master Reels and some heart Thickers from the same pack as the play word.

Love how this turned out! Super fun layout to make and love the story that it tells!
