A Day at Chuck E. Cheese

 Here is layout #2 for my Finishing Project with Simple Scrapper this year. 

This is another kit from Just Kitting. Modified this one quite a bit. It was intended for a birthday party originally, but for these photos, it was just a get together with friends so I switched out some of the die cuts for ones that would work. 

Since most of the layouts I have to be completed for this project need journaling, I have been trying to find some creative ways to document the story. Since this layout was for an event that happened so long ago, I knew it was going to be a challenge to find what I was going to say. On top of that, I couldn't find the original photos in my photo library to put a date on it as well.

After some investigating, I finally searched my emails to find when and where and other details about this to document it. In the process, I decided to stick to the 5 Ws (who, what, where, when, why). In searching my stamp stash, I found I had an old Technique Tuesday/Ali Edwards stamp set that was perfect for this! The label shape even repeated the shape from the title!

Repeated the label on the second page and called this one complete!

Feels good to have another layout ready for my albums rather than in a pile!

Dog Tired and Moused Out

 It is Finishing Project time at Simple Scrapper. Last year I completed 15 layouts that were in progress. I am talking about layouts that were over eight years old, some of them. Once the 15 had been completed, put in their albums, I found that I had at least another dozen to tackle. Nothing like meeting a goal to find that the goal post had moved again!

I decided that the next time the Finishing Project was done live, I would tackle the 12 I had left. 

Here is layout #1 that I have completed for this year. 

This is a layout kit that was designed by Just Kitting. When my mom created this one, I knew I had a handful of photos that would be perfect for it! I love doing layouts that encompass multiple trips to Disneyland!

This layout didn't take much to finish this go round. At some point this year, I managed to order a few more photos and reprint one of Maddie at a different size to fit more on the page to tell a more complete story.

As with most of these kits, I modified quite a few things to make it work with the photos I had. 

I ran the ticket booth off the page and tucked the journaling in the top window. I went through my Disney sticker stash and found one that was perfect for embellishing the bottom of the ticket booth. 

As a finishing touch I added some star confetti around the page to add some texture and interest around the layout. 

And there you go. Another page in progress complete! So thankful for the Simple Scrapper community to help motivate me to get this project done!

Ally- Month 10

 I am taking Ali Edwards Type class self-paced this year and have a list of techniques I want to use on some upcoming layouts.

The layout I am sharing today was for an assignment to use “type on type”. 

I thought about a layout using a type based pattern paper and die cutting it out. I thought about backing a title with a type based paper as well. In the end I settled on creating another layout for my daughter’s baby album.

All of the monthly layouts in this album use a die cut title in white card stock cut on my silhouette. I found another type sentiment I had cut when practicing to use my machine, using the same paper.

I layered the die cuts over a text paper from DIY shop newsprint 6x6 paper pad.

The base paper was from Felicity Jane. I loved the scallop at the top. 

The other papers were from Dear Lizzy Fancy Free collection.

Embellished with a few pink and white sparkle gems as well as punched pinked circle and hearts.

Finished it off with a few roller stamps on the diagonal.

Love that little face in the photos. It makes creating this layout so much more enjoyable!

Ally- Month 1

Hello! 

Sharing a layout that was inspired by Ali Edwards’ Type class. The assignment was to create a layout with hand writing.

I have been slowing making layouts for my daughter Ally’s baby album. 

I decided to find a pink stripe background paper that O could hand write a sentiment over and over to modify the pattern.

The paper I found was from an old Dear Lizzy paper. The banner was created with a Crate Paper cut-a-part that also had the Love piece. I used a triangle banner punch and alternate, using papers that coordinated with the cut a part.

I also used some velvet paper from SEI for the title block. I cut the month 1 circle title with my silhouette.

On the lower section of the paper (designed to be the top but I flipped the pattern) there were blocks of different sizes. Wasn’t sure how to fill it. Decided to repeat my hand writing in the big block. The long strips I used an old Technique Tuesday/Ali Edwards baby stamp set. The little ones I inked 3 rows of another oldie but goodie stamp set from TT/AE.

Sprinkled some sequins as a finishing touch.

Enjoying learning about Type and playing around with the class assignments has be a lot of fun!

 

First Tooth

When going through some older blog posts on my site, I realized this one had never been published. 

This one is still very much my style still and love the products I used to create it. Used the First Story Stamp from Ali Edwards for the title. The background paper is one from Crate Paper and the others are from Little Bicycle, which to my knowledge no longer exists. 

The little flash cards are from Tim Holtz and I used 3 around the page for the foundations to my embellishment clusters.

Glad I found this to share with you now, even if it is an old layout!

Funny Little Story

This layout was inspired by the Fun Story Stamp by Ali Edwards. FUNNY enough though, the laugh story kit came out before I created the layout and so I used some stamps from both sets to tell this story.

I had recorded this story in 2017 the day it happened, knowing I wanted to create a layout about it later. I am definitely a document now create later kind of gal. 

It was conversation that my daughter and husband had and when I saw the speech bubble stamps on the Laugh kit, I thought it would be a perfect way to document the story. 

When putting this layout together, Ally wanted to help, and seeing it was a page about her, I let her help pick the supplies and colors of the layout. She selected a Basic Grey pattern for the back ground and then helped me find coordinating Distress Ink colors to stamp with. 

Created my own pattern paper on the left side of the layout using a mix of stamps from both the fun and laugh story stamp sets as well as some emojis from a Hip Kit stamp, I believe.

I created the journaling in PSE, using the digital stamps of the speech bubbles to help me know how the placement was going to work. Initially I was going to print the speech bubbles separate and layer on the background, but I printed incorrectly and was going to have to restamp them all and decided just to do it as one.

Used a lot of stamps on this layout. Used some for the title, the subtitle, the tag embellishments as well as the scalloped strip!

Loved how this turned out and how many of my stamps I played with and that got used on this layout! Also excited that I got this story told!

 

Lights, Camera, Action

I struggle with some of the Story Class themes from Ali Edwards when it comes to stories I want to tell. I struggled with Bloom and again with Action. I always stretch myself to find at least one story to tell, and love where it leads me. 

The layout that was inspired by the Action Story Stamp was one of those stories. 

I was inspired by "Lights, Camera, Action" as a title and went from there. It sparked the story of Maddie's favorite types of toys and how they are all props essentially to the shows and movies that she likes to watch.

I decided to do a lay flat photo of the toys that she is currently playing with and pair it with small 2x2 photos of her over the years playing with those toys. 

 

With my stash of products to use, I struggled to find a starting place. I even asked my friends at Simple Scrapper for a jumping off place. 

Ultimately the arrow on the stamp set inspired me to look for arrow patterns. I remembered one from a Studio Calico collection I had but I didn't use the one I had thought of because I found this rainbow arrow instead. I thought it pulled all of the bright colors from the toys.

Along the arrow theme, I also found some acetate arrows as well as some chipboard silver foiled arrows that paired nicely with the patterned paper I had found. I attached the acetate arrows with my Tim Holtz tiny attacher.

I don't have a wide format printer to print on 12x12 paper, so I printed on an 8.5x12 page and pieced it with the pattern on the right to stretch it to 12x12.

I am working my way through Ali Edwards' Type class right now as well, and the title work was inspired by the stacked type assignment. I used Kelly Purkey alphabet stickers along with the action stamp from the Action Story Stamp.

To go with the film themed title, I found a Teresa Collins stamp in my stash with the film strip. I stamped it on vellum and cut it out and layered it around the layout. 

In my main 3 areas of embellishment, I also added a stamped sentiment from the Story Stamp in Ali's Pendleton ink as well as some Heidi Swapp's Tinsel Color Shine splatters.

 Love the end result of this! Love what stories I can tell when I am inspired by Ali's Story themes.
